Ladies and gentleman, I have heard the future of pop music. After the phenomenally successful TV series brainwashed teenagers across the globe, this ‘Fame’ rip-off has been transformed into a predictable soundtrack album. While waiting for the DVD release, fans can annoy neighbours and parents alike with this first volume of the music from the series. Single-handedly responsible for revitalising the career of soft-rockers Journey (a crime worthy of a slow death in itself), other acts such as Rihanna, Liza Minelli, Jordin Sparks and even Neil Diamond are given the Glee kiss-of-death. Saying that, I did thoroughly enjoy the rendition of Kanye West’s ‘Gold Digger’, which was only marginally less camp than Butlins. For everything else on this CD however, the cast deserve nothing less than a mass bout of permanent laryngitis.
