Under Great White Northern Lights
The White Stripes
Accompanying soundtrack album to the documentary film made by the rock duo, featuring songs recorded live across their 2007 tour of Canada. As is normal practise, the tracks are ramshackle, blues-rock compositions, played in a rough and ready style that adds great feeling to the tracks. Featuring songs mainly from the more recent years of their career, it’s a spirited live rock album, and an impressive racket to be made by just two people. After an incendiary ‘Let’s Shake Hands’, there’s the folky ‘Little Ghost’ and grinding ‘Icky Thump’ as perhaps the best tracks on offer here. Ending with an extended jam version of ‘Seven Nation Army’, this is definitely a live album you have to check out.
