A Curious Thing
Amy Macdonald
Superb second album from the Scottish singer-songwriter, who fully deserves to be mentioned in her own right alongside her countrywoman KT Tunstall. Continuing with her line of lush acoustic anthems, MacDonald’s compositions are this time backed up with dramatic strings, such as on the first single ‘Don’t Tell Me That It’s Over’. Her spirited voice gives the album a real punch, and makes each track a real winner. There are more down-tempo moments to give the LP some balance (‘No Roots’ is a prime example, with it’s unsettling background feedback, whereas ‘My Only One’ is a wonderful modern ballad). There’s really nothing to fault here, as Amy does a great job of proving that ‘difficult second album syndrome’ can really sometimes just be a myth.

I can't say if I prefer this one or This Is The Life. They are very different imo. Love em both tho.

i totally underrated this album when it first came out
Better than the first album.
If you compare the album version of "Give it all up" to the acoustic version on This Pretty face... the live version is miles better! They shouldn't try to make her more pop-alike.
I was quite disappointed when I first heard it but now that some time has passed I think this one is just as good as her first album.

The album flows really well. As an album, it's just excellent.
This album is slowly growing on me. It's not mind-blowing, but it has quality. But I still hate the cover. Sorry but I think that covers that are just photos of the artist's face are laaaame.
I miss such amazing songs like Mr. Rock & Roll and This is the life but overall this album is better than This is the life
