Odd Blood
Yeasayer
The second album from Brooklyn experimentalists Yeasayer, and the follow up to their well-received debut ‘All Hour Cymbals’. Describing their sound is a hard job, although the band cite themselves as ‘Middle Eastern psych-snap-gospel’ (see what I mean?). Having toured with groups such as MGMT and Beck, they certainly offer a varied sound, from the Nick Kershaw-meets-Peter Gabriel at a Men At Work convention groove of the single ‘Ambling Alp’ (an early contender for Single of 2010) and another pop-oriented effort, ‘One’. If comparisons to other acts are limited, this is a great sign of the band’s individuality, and the need to hear them to be fully impressed. Falling somewhere between bands such as The Flaming Lips, The Polyphonic Spree and Friendly Fires, while those groups haven’t made a huge commercial dent in terms of record sales, it’s fair to say this album may be the band’s breakthrough moment, and fully deserved it is too - a Mercury Music Prize nomination surely can’t be too much to ask.

"Halfway through and this album is bliss :)" "Oh wait, it gets shitty halfway through. Nvm" - lol'd heartiliy, would laugh again.
Love this album, has potential. Glad I picked it up at Bestbuy on release day. Last album I ever bought there before moving west.
"Grower" is an overused word to describe an album but if there's any that deserves it, it's this one.
decent album
Grizelda is the only song I don't love on this album.
starting to like them :]
It is quite amazing how good this album is!
Did someone just say stretch?
"The stretch from The Children to Grizelda is, in and of itself, a minor masterpiece." - fixed that for you. Also, Odd Blood is amazing. So is All Hour Cymbals.
1 2 3 7 9 TODO CALZA POLLO!

Halfway through and this album is bliss :)

AOTY!!
great, fun album.
The stretch from Ambling Alp to O.N.E. is, in and of itself, a minor masterpiece. [2]
I get the feeling that whichever Yeasayer album you listen to first becomes your favorite. For me, it's odd blood. This is the best album of the year.
It's not 31/12 yet but this album will probably take the number 1 position on my list of best albums of the year...
ambling alp is my favourite!
Great album
This album is fantastic.
tis different compared to the earlier stuff, but good.
I don't understand how a band can get from All Hour Cymbals to this. [2]
I don't understand how a band can get from All Hour Cymbals to this. It must have been a one time fluke, where the alchemy just fell together perfectly. I don't think Yeasayer can ever accomplish anything like that again. If you just like the songs, fine. Enjoy it. For me this album is meaningless while All Hour Cymbals is just layered with life and spirit.
haha i like the cover but the album is...well it would be good if it didnt follow all hour cymbals. but they sound like a different band. :/
This is such a weird album. I love it!
Love this album...but I have to agree with Provashanty, the cover art is a computerized hot mess.
Listened to this album in full for the first time today and despite my initial doubts it is actually quite good! The cover art isn't brilliant but it isn't really anything worth kicking up a fuss about either.
I love this album............the best songs are O.N.E. and Love Me Girl
The stretch from Ambling Alp to O.N.E. is, in and of itself, a minor masterpiece.
the cover is definitely an eyecatcher. i, for one, love the watermarked band name and album title layered over Ben Phelan's artwork.
Cover is a disaster btw — Kai's Power Tools on Acid *bleargh!*
O.N.E. currently being rinsed on the F1 idents :)
love this album. it's quirky and funky. practically electro-tribal!
Top 5 of the year for me. :)
AMBLING ALP!
Album of the year
yeasayer made my 2010. thank you.
Yeasayer is so amazing, and the cover? intresting
I hear Animal collective all over the album! But i love anyhow
I think i'm the only one who actually loves the cover art. [3]
Not a good cover really!
um. YES. nice album art, the first Yeasayer album I've listened to but they seem to have the required oddness for me to give them a watch at Leeds Festival.
the cover is horrific.
I think i'm the only one who actually loves the cover art. [2]
Worst cover art ever. [2] still a great record though.
great album!
Great Album.
the cover reminds me of new order's technique. i like it
